[Through the weeks Paprika has been noticing more people coming through, signalling another cycle. It seems that most of the arrivals have already come and still no Atsuko. Well, that's probably for the best anyway. She can't say she would be happy to see the woman stuck here. For some reason she's been thinking about it. Probably because of the rain. The cold, dim demeanor reminded her of her creator. Kind of sad actually.

In the morning, she flips open the journal and begins. She has something she wants to address and given the rain, more people will probably be inside reading to see it.]

So, I see we got some new arrivals in the village. I'm sorry that you all got stuck here. ...Well, only half-sorry. If you actually want to be here, that's fine too. [A small smile.]

My name is Paprika and I'm a psychotherapist. For anyone who doesn't have 'people doctors' in their world, psychotherapists help people cope with certain issues they feel they can't resolve on their own. Like mental stress or the like. Specifically, my specialty is dream therapy. Psychotherapists are known for having interpersonal relationships, so it's like getting to know the person inside and out and not just talking to them for an hour a week.

I'll get to the point: if any of you have things you want to talk about, but don't feel like you have anyone who will listen or want to keep a matter private from others, I'm willing to lend an ear. Everything we speak about is confidential between us and I won't force it on you. I already learned to make unhackable filters on this system. Or, if you prefer, we can talk in person.

It's just an offer I'm willing to give to anyone who needs it. We have plenty of medical doctors, but sometimes the deepest wounds come from within the psyche. This goes for current residents too. Luceti can be a stressing environment and no one would blame you for getting stressed to a point where you need help, if you can acknowledge you need it. I'll be here all day to answer in.

Oh wow. You're from a long way. At least for me. I come from twenty hundred and six.

Two thousand and six? I have quite a few friends from around then.

A few people seem to be from that time era, but our worlds still may be different despite that.

Everyone's world is different.

[It's not really something he believes, but he's deflecting. It's been brought to his attention that there may be "alternate Earths," but he'd rather not think on it. Jack Sparrow is from home, no matter what. It's all he has.]

True enough. Normally you can just tell if someone is from your world. Like a gut feeling.

Sometimes all it takes is knowing the same songs.

The same songs? [She thinks with a small pause.] I guess that's an interesting way to distinguish. You know anyone that knows the same songs then?

One, yes. But we're both sailors.

So you're a sailor then? Luceti seems to have a lot of people who live mainly on the water. I'm glad you found someone from your world though.

Less than a century apart, in fact. Must be my typical good luck acting up again.

[Except his good luck is what everyone else would count as misfortune. How did people here end up with siblings and he doesn't even have a friend he knew in his previous life?]

Some people have all the luck and most people have none of it. Never really an in-between. Then again, I'm not sure if I would want someone dear to me stuck here in the same boat.

I've wondered that sometimes, although I don't think this is such a bad place.

For some it isn't. I can understand plenty of reasons for wanting to be here, so I don't hold it against people.

Good. Not everyone believes me when I say that.

Well, I can get why. The initial reaction is always "you were kidnapped, why do you want to stay captured?" but it's not always a case of Stockholm Syndrome, where the person starts liking their captor. It's just that they sometimes don't want to leave for other reasons.

[Like when they have nowhere else to go.]

It isn't such a bad world. They provide for us and don't ask much in return. Just because they're corrupt doesn't make them worse than what we had back home.

There are corrupt official types everywhere. Heck, that CEO makes a great bureaucrat in my opinion. Like I said, I don't fault anyone who wants to stay here more.

How long have you been here?

[She thinks for a moment, trying to recount.]

Since early September of last year.

Does it seem like a long or short time?

Short, in my opinion. What about you?

Long. [There's a slight crack in his voice as he says the word.]

[She hears the crack clearly and gives him a smile.]

Don't worry about it. I bet you met good people here regardless.

Some very good people, yes. None of whom want to be here.
