✯ First Session ✯ [Voice]

[As soon as the feed clicks on a woman can be seen, eating a bag of popcorn. She's been flipping around her journal for a while and feels her curiosity at it's peek. That and it's raining. Not a fun day at all.]

Hello everyone, I hope you're staying indoors and keeping warm. 'When it rains, it pours!' as the old saying goes. Don't want anyone catching a flu out there.

Hey, I'm curious: what kind of places does everyone come from? An island, a desolate desert, the ocean, the city- maybe you don't even have a place to call home. This 'different worlds' thing is really exciting! Like a merge of different cultures coming all together...against our wills. [It doesn't sound as good now that she thinks about it.]

...Oh, I hope I'm not prying though. Some people think I do that a lot, so don't be offended. I'm not going to store this information away for nefarious means. It's just a way to spend time waiting for the sun to come up. Exchanging stories that we might never hear in our 'world' sounds fun, don't you think?

[She's about to click off the feed, but then remembers something important.]

Wait! Almost forgot: thanks to everyone who helped me get settled into this place a couple weeks back. You know who you are.

Another person from France, hm. Why did you move to Japan?

[identity profile] 1week-wizard.livejournal.com 2010-09-23 03:51 am (UTC)(link)
There was a place for us there that was safe.

[identity profile] byakkoyagirl.livejournal.com 2010-09-23 10:03 pm (UTC)(link)
Were you a refugee of some sort?

[identity profile] 1week-wizard.livejournal.com 2010-09-24 03:37 am (UTC)(link)
Not quite...

Are you familiar with "youkai"?

[identity profile] byakkoyagirl.livejournal.com 2010-09-24 06:26 pm (UTC)(link)
[She thinks for a moment.]

...No, can't say I have. I've never heard of a lot of things that most people here know.

[identity profile] 1week-wizard.livejournal.com 2010-09-24 08:14 pm (UTC)(link)
Youkai is a Japanese word. It is a catch-all term used for any number of natural and super-natural beings. Yuurei, oni, devils, vampires, fairies, and so forth. It is also applied to those of us who are born with affinity for magic, like myself.

[identity profile] byakkoyagirl.livejournal.com 2010-09-24 11:16 pm (UTC)(link)
So you're a witch? Sorry, if I'm not getting my terminology right. That's the cost you pay for working in the field of science. So those things exists where you come from.

[identity profile] 1week-wizard.livejournal.com 2010-09-25 01:49 am (UTC)(link)
They may well exist in your world as well. Humans tend to deny their existence, but to every myth, legend, and fairytale there is a big of truth.

[identity profile] byakkoyagirl.livejournal.com 2010-09-25 01:50 am (UTC)(link)
[What she says...doesn't surprise her, but she does accept it.]

...Do youkai include something called 'dream guardians' by any chance?

[identity profile] 1week-wizard.livejournal.com 2010-09-25 05:43 am (UTC)(link)
There are many youkai who have power over dreams. Some benevolently. The exact terms escape me at the moment, of course.

[identity profile] byakkoyagirl.livejournal.com 2010-09-25 06:07 pm (UTC)(link)
[She nods, looking a little less tense. Well, the president was sort of benevolent. Not a lot though.]

Hm. Then maybe they do exist in my world. Never met one in person and I doubt they'll come up to me and say what they are.

[identity profile] 1week-wizard.livejournal.com 2010-09-25 07:24 pm (UTC)(link)
You would be correct about that. Youkai hide from humans, after all.

[identity profile] byakkoyagirl.livejournal.com 2010-09-26 12:57 pm (UTC)(link)
Wait until I tell this to my colleagues. They might laugh at me and say I've been stuck dreaming too much.

[identity profile] 1week-wizard.livejournal.com 2010-09-26 10:15 pm (UTC)(link)
Humans tend to not pay any mind to the possibility of the fantastic existing with the mundane.

[identity profile] byakkoyagirl.livejournal.com 2010-09-27 12:58 am (UTC)(link)
It's only in human nature to believe anything out of the mundane exists only in fiction. There are only a few things that are supernatural in existence and are accepted by humans.

[identity profile] 1week-wizard.livejournal.com 2010-09-27 03:23 am (UTC)(link)
Precisely.
